MiniSort 3


The MiniSort 3 is the next generation of on-site metals sorter. It does not use X-rays and thus is completely safe to use, requiring no special certification. Its key advantage is its ability to analize just about any type of metal.

It is a hand-held portable metals sorter containing a spectrometer, power supply, processor, and a removable, Lithium-ferropolymer (LiFP) rechargeable battery pack. This type of battery pack is much safer than the more common (and cheaper) Lithium-ion. MiniSort is factory calibrated and does not require any further calibration or standardization.

Hardware

3600 pixel CCD mini-optic for wavelengths 230nm to 640nm (includes the measurement of Li in Al-Cu alloys).
Each test uses a A 1.7A dc arc plasma which is generated from the silver electrode to the sample surface. Samples should be clean and dry for the test. Test times are factory set for optimal performance.
The LiFP battery pack provides enough power for over 250 tests from a full charge. The battery pack is removable and can be recharged on the fast-charger within 90 minutes. Additional battery packs will permit extended on-site use of the MiniSort 3. Mains power can be used to power the MiniSort 3 indefinitely.
The MiniSort 3 can be connected to your pc via the USB port of the battery charger or via a wireless (bluetooth) connection. These connections enable the user to download logged data and amend the alloy tables.

Software

Operating on the in-built processor the MiniSort software is operated via a touch-screen. The software boots up automatically when the MiniSort is switched on and will be ready for the first test within a few seconds. Operation is simple and users become competent within minutes.
Five types of test are available on the MiniSort:
  • Auto-ID: When the type of material is unknown
  • Pass-Fail: Simple sorting between a few grades of alloys
  • Quick-Test: Chemical analysis sorting of multiple alloys of a single base metal
  • ID: Identification only sorting of multiple alloys of a single base metal
  • Analysis: Averaging of multiple tests on a single sample

MiniSort 3 can be calibrated for a wide range of metal types including:
  • Irons & Steels
  • Aluminium
  • Copper
  • Titanium
  • Nickel
  • Zinc
  • Magnesium
Other types of metal may be available on request.

MiniSort AlMax



The MiniSort AlMax is a variation on the MiniSort 3, focussed completely on Al performance. It contains several enhancements over the standard MiniSort 3 to improve on the MiniSorts 3’s already excellent Al performance to reduce the limits of detection.



The software is the same as a standard MiniSort 3 but given its extra stability of the AlMax, it add the capability for standardisation. It will also allow a user to add their own standards for checking and standardization.

Although it contains many enhancements, the size and weight are the same as the standard MiniSort 3. In addition, it can use all the standard MiniSort 3 accessories and software.




MiniSort FAC


The MiniSort FAC unit is designed for ultimate levels of stability, performance and limits of detection, focussing on detecting FAC (Flow Accelerated Corrosion, also known as Flow Assisted Corrosion) issues.
As it does not use ionising radiation for analysis, it can be used in places where X-rays cannot.
It adds all the additional stability enhancements of the MiniSort 3 AlMax, with a much higher resolution spectrometer. Although the software is the same as a standard MiniSort 3, it add the capability for standardisation, and with it the ability to use a customers own standards for checking and reference.

Although it contains many enhancements, the size and weight are the same as the standard MiniSort 3. In addition, it can use all the standard MiniSort 3 accessories and software.




MiniSort X


The MiniSort X is RMG Technologies first unit utilising X-rays to analyse metals. The introduction of the MiniSort X gives RMG Technology a complete portfolio of hand held metal analysers.

The size and weight are approximately same as the standard MiniSort 3. In addition, it can use all the usual MiniSort 3 accessories and software.
